Domain FAQ
Yes, the Internet is full of jargon and curious terms which do not mean much to the average person. We understand that you may still be a bit confused
about some of the information on our website regarding domain registration. So we have compiled a list of the most common questions we get asked below.
But even this list may not answer all your questions, so if you have further queries then please do not hesitate to let us know.
I wish to point my domain to you rather than transfer it completely to your control. What are the details?
This is perfectly reasonable. We never force our clients to register their domains or transfer the domains to us in order to use our services. However,
certain services we provide may have different nameserer settings. So to answer this we would refer you to your setup email (you will receive this when
your hosting account is activated) which will specify the correct nameservers to use.
Many other providers give away domains with their hosting packages or charge next to nothing. Why do you charge for the registrations?
Thats a good question. In reality all registrars get charged themselves for the domains they register. And so the logical assumption is that if they
are then giving you that domain to use for your hosting, they have to recoup the fee somehow. Now it could be that it is a loss leader to get you
"under their blanket" in order to sell you further services. It is a valid business model and we see it all the time in other business and retail sectors.
We like to do things differently. Our business model is to be completely transparent in our pricing. So if we charge a fair price in the first place, we do not then
have an uncomfortable situation with clients should they wish to transfer the domain away, we know they have paid for the service and the domain is theirs to use
as they see fit in accordance to the domain registration agreement.
Some companies will charge a hefty fee if you wish to transfer away - we do not charge at all. Some registrars will register the domain under their details rather
than the client (because they didnt pay for it), and we have heard of cases where the poor client then gets stung for hundreds and even thousands of pounds should they
wish to have the registrant details transfered to them. Google is full of stories like this.
So that is our position. We charge a fair price for the domain and it is yours, you own it. You can take it away and host it elsewhere if you like - and there are no
hidden fees - ever!
I have example.com and example.net - can I point them at the same website?
With our hosting packages you can do just that. You set the account up with the prefered domain as primary (e.g. the .com) and when the account is activated, you can then
set the second domain (and others) as domain aliases.
I decided that I no longer like my domain. Can I get a refund?
Actually, once you register a domain - it cannot be unregistered. We as your agent will not be refunded by the registrar for unwanted domains so we would have to decline on
giving refunds for domains. Our best advise is to encourage you to really be sure you will use the domain before you register it.
Will I own the domain if I register it with you?
Technically, nobody owns a domain. When you register a domain, you are entering into an agreement with the registrar which states that you have an exclusive right to use
that domain for as long as you continue to pay the registrar fees. You also have an automatic right to renew that domain when the domain comes up for expiry before any
other party can attempt to claim it for themselves. There are some exceptions and we encourage people to read the registrar agreements before they register their domains.
Centrehost.co.uk acts as agents between the registrant and the registrar. When you register a domain through Centrehost.co.uk - the domain WILL be registered in your
name and not ours.
